Pelvic floor Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy for the Pelvic Floor can include:

  • Assessing the pelvic floor during pregnancy to teach and guide exercises

  • Perineal preparation for a vaginal delivery

  • Postnatal assessments to guide pelvic floor recovery following pregnancy or vaginal delivery

  • Teaching correct pelvic floor exercises / kegals

  • Pelvic floor pain assessment and treatment

  • Treatment for pelvic organ prolapse

  • Assessment of the cause of incontinence and provision of a rehabilitation program

  • Bladder urgency and / or incontinence advice and rehabilitation

Why is it helpful to be assessed and provided with a bespoke treatment plan?

  • Sometimes ‘Kegals’ or pelvic floor strengthening exercises resolve pelvic floor dyscunfton but this is not always the case

  • Women can have dyscunftion for other reasons than lack of strength such as muscle overactivity or tightness, fascial damage, lifestyle factors etc.

  • Many women don’t know how to perform a pelvic floor muscle exercise correctly, hence not achieving any benefit from practicing them at home without guidence on technique or correct exercise perscription

  • Exercises need to be matched to your current presentation - this might be techning the plevic floor to be more mobile, have more endurance, have more power, working on co-orination and progressivly loading the muscles to tolerate whatever it is you want to be doing

  • There is no one size fits all and an individulased plan is a lot more beneficial to your recovery
