Meet Máiréad

MISCP & CORU Registered Physiotherapist

Pelvic health physio specialising in pregnancy & postnatal rehab

Máiréad qualified as a physiotherapist in 2015 from UWE Bristol and gained experience in primary care both in Bristol and later in the HSE in Cork. Her experience includes specialist neurology, complex care of the older persons, rehabilitation and musculoskeletal care. Máiréad is also a qualified yoga teacher and APPI Pilates instructor. In 2019 Máiréad ran a specialised back care Pilates programme in Dungarvan.

Many of you may know Máiréad from the Bumproom pregnancy fitness classes which she has taught for the last few years in Dungarvan. This experience reinforced Máiréad's passion in women’s health. She has attended multiple courses on pregnancy and post natal care, educating herself on all things pelvic health.

Prior to working as a physio, Máiréad qualified as a general nurse from UCC and worked for 11 years specialising in acute medical care working in many hospitals around the world. Máiréad gained experience in gynaecology as a newly qualified nurse and returned to this speciality later on in her career working in gynae-oncology at the CUMH and palliative care at Marymount hospice before she retrained to be a physiotherapist.

Máiréad also completed a post graduate certificate in food, health and nutrition with a focus on women’s health. Máiréad is a new mum and understands the journey from pregnancy to motherhood and the importance of the role of pelvic health physio in this time.

Outside of her physio work, Máiréad has her own business in organic horticulture. Máiréad runs her own business 'Garraí Mara' in An Rinn growing and selling organic vegetables locally. She looks forward to empowering women in West Waterford on their pelvic health journeys through education, exercise and a holistic approach to care.
